While doing my thing on the net today, I came across something rather interesting. A fake Firefox update. I was very easily able to tell it was fake for a few reasons. 1: the update prompt did not come from the task bar notice like my browser always does. 2: I use Palemoon browser, not firefox. 3: The address of the proposed update source.. new-firefox.com
Thankfully I have my browser to notify me about a web page trying to redirect, and that probably saved me from the rogue update from being loaded up.
If you come across this rogue page, close that browser window. DO NOT run the update from that window!
This is a pic of the fake update window.
To help protect yourself against such types of social engineer schemes, I suggest firefox and palemoon users to use the AdBlock Plus and No-Script extensions to help safeguard yourself.
Stay safe
